SoyTutta Interview

An interview with the creative mind behind OR portraits and more!

SoyTutta Interview

Today we are interviewing one of the pixel artists of Origin Realms, SoyTutta (Tutta)! If you don’t know, Tutta is the person that has come up with Origin Realms profile pictures/in game dialogue pictures that we know today! I would have interviewed Tutta a long time ago, but they were gone for a long time, but here we finally are, Enjoy!

CheeseCakex5: How did you first find out about OR?
Tutta: It was really funny my first contact xD Eraze contacted me asking if this pixel art that I made for a bestiary belonged to me and as I told him that if I commission some paintings, emojis and gui. I worked for a long time without really knowing what exactly OR was xD. In fact I didn't know the name either and came to think it was a mod but I was always in love with the designs and everything around the project. After a few months I was able to enter the discord and was really impressed with all that I was doing. I was very excited to work on it xD

CC: What is your favorite part of your job?
T: My favorite part would be to do the npcs portraits, the first ones I did were of my favorite npcs, in fact xD. OR-bit and the Librarian are so beautiful that more than once I have wanted to redo their portraits just to redraw them. I also like the creative freedom I have in doing the paintings and gui. I almost never get any restrictions xD

CC: What is your favorite part about Pixel Art compared to more traditional pen & paper type art?
T: I am a fan of pixel art, all my favorite games have always been kept in a pixel style. It is difficult to draw and color the pixelated characters with pencil and paper xD. I also love the small canvases because they force me to improvise and take advantage of the space

CC: What do you think is key when mimicking the Mojang style?
T: More than trying to imitate the style of Mojang I always try to think about what I would like to do, I take many references from different games and the only Mojang game I usually try to get inspiration from is Minecraft dungeon, but that game has an artistic direction that I love.
The best thing that someone can do when making art for Minecraft is not to try to limit themselves by it, to do what we want to see in the game and not what already exists in it (Always having several references at hand and practicing constantly is good)

CC: How does it make you feel that so many people are making their own renditions of your dialogue pictures?
T: I was very happy that people liked my work, the day he rebelled took me by surprise and kept me happy for the rest of the day. It's always nice when people create their own portraits OR. Although I was a bit depressed when I heard that someone was reselling my work, it is already a problem of the past that has been solved xD. In general I feel very happy and proud that the community would have liked my style so much and that they even want to have their portrait taken.

CC: What is your favorite part about making dialogue pictures for these NPCs?
T: Definitely my favorite thing is the Endergized designs. I love being able to redraw npcs that are not in the shape of a player (like OR-bit, the mayor, the Phoenix, ect) Basically I work doing fanart xD

OR Portraits for players in the community made by Tutta!

CC: That was the last question Tutta, any final thoughts or words you want to express to the people at home?
T: I would like to remind everyone that if someone tells them that banana bread should not be pierced by a banana, they should be careful.
CC: Alright thank you for your time Tutta! It's greatly appreciated! Stay Awesome!
